Need a reliable weekly shift with the chance to pick up extra hours as needed? We’re looking for a dependable worker to join our team as a Transfer Station Spare.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • The Transfer Station Spare will be responsible for covering the roles of Transfer Station Attendant and Scale House Operator.
  • The work environment of the Transfer Station Spare will be a mix of office environment (Scale House) and outdoor work, in possible adverse weather conditions, with the possibility of noise and/or odors.
  • This is a part-time permanent position for a minimum of 4 hours per week. Hours will vary based on operational needs (vacations, training, special projects, absence of staff, etc.).
  • Reports to the Transfer Station / Landfill Supervisor.
  • Moderate physical effort is required.
  • Off-site mandatory training as required.
  • Completion of all training required as per OH&S directives.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Transfer Station Spare is part of the Municipality’s Public Works Department and will fill in for staff as needed and on the Saturday morning rotation. The Transfer Station Attendant and the Scale House Operator are responsible for ensuring the proper sorting of garbage and recycling, in compliance with all environmental requirements. Here are some of the duties:

  • Ensure proper sorting of garbage and recycling.
  • Interact with members of the public, commercial drivers, and various service providers.
  • Assist with all duties required for proper care and maintenance of transfer station equipment and infrastructure.
  • Collect disposal fees in accordance with the rates established by Municipal Council.
  • Issue customer invoices and prepare necessary documentation for the Accounting Clerk.
  • Weigh vehicles as they enter and exit the Transfer Station / landfill site.
  • Direct customers to the proper onsite disposal area

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required, but previous experience in garbage disposal and recycling, or scale house operation is an asset.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment (i.e., a loader) is an asset.
  • Computer skills.
  • Bilingual (English and French).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be safety conscious.
  • Valid driver’s license required (to drive municipal vehicle).
