June 19, 2026 : On June 17, 2026, the Municipality of Clare took another step toward building a more inclusive community by completing the installation of accessible braille signage at the Municipal Office in Little Brook.

This initiative is part of Action 1.1 of the Municipality of Clare’s pdf2025–2028 Accessibility Plan, which focuses on improving accessibility in municipal buildings open to the public. It also aligns with the recommendations of the Canadian accessibility standard CSA/ASC B651:23.

This project was made possible through funding from the Municipal Accessibility, Equity and Anti-Racism Program of the Association of Municipal Administrators Nova Scotia (AMANS).

An Accessible Investment

Although braille signage may seem difficult to source, the Municipality was able to find a specialized supplier offering this type of product. The signs were ordered from Mattatall Signs Ltd., a company based in Dartmouth.

The cost of the signs proved to be relatively affordable, depending on their size. This demonstrates that improving the accessibility of public buildings can be achieved in a practical and cost-effective way.

This Is Just the Beginning

The installation of braille signage at the Municipal Office marks the first step in a broader commitment. Over the coming months, additional municipal buildings that are open to the public will also receive accessible signage.

By continuing to implement its Accessibility Plan, the Municipality of Clare reaffirms its commitment to providing welcoming, safe, and accessible facilities for all members of the community.
